Symbols of Faith

Many people turned to their faith to get them through the devastation they felt after the bombing. Their faith also helped in their healing.

This Hawaiian lei, made of kukui nuts, brown seeds, ti leaves and white shells, was removed from Michael Loudenslager’s chair on April 22, 2006. The kukui tree is the state tree of Hawaii. To wear a ‘Kukui ano ano’ or Kukui seed lei, is to wear a lei of light. Kukui were the first prayer beads for the Hawaiian people and are still used today.
